Yes, She Did.

I recently heard Bret Easton Ellis discuss The Shining on his 3-13-17 podcast (with Mick Garris). At exactly 38 minutes into the podcast, Ellis states:

“Added note: Shelley Duvall never made another movie again because she was so traumatized by Kubrick and the length of the shoot.”

I heard that claim and immediately thought, wait a minute, what about–

–Roxanne, with Steve Martin? She was in that. That was released in 1987.

She also had a small role in Steven Soderbergh’s The Underneath in 1995. She’s even credited on the poster.

Plus, another post-Shining performance, Duvall’s dual supporting role in Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits in 1981:

And, oh, yeah, she played Olive Oyl in Robert Altman’s crappy Popeye, which was shot from the end of January 1980 until the end of June that year (the same month The Shining went into wide release).

Checking her credits on IMDb, I found that Duvall continued working as an actress up until 2002.

The reason I’m addressing this is because I’ve heard other people make the claim that Duvall never acted in another movie again after her work with Kubrick.

It’s a cute story, but it’s false.
