As a fan of well-made Vigilante flicks, I have to say this is one of the worst of the 1980s. I thought it was pretty good when I was fourteen or so, but it’s extremely tedious, tone-deaf stuff. One of the worst performances of Tom Skerritt’s career (and I usually like his work).
Equal parts preachy and exploitative, the movie tries to work both sides of the street and winds up losing on both counts. I enjoy trash so long as it entertains. This was yawn-inducing trash. I’d rather watch The Exterminator or Vigilante. I’m not being facetious when I say that, either; at least both those films know what they are.
