This is what a ruthless pursuit of heaven on earth, "Utopia", leads to: Mayhem, Misery, Extinction.
Interesting concept. Good cast. Unsatisfying downer of an ending. Not a great movie, but, inexplicably, it's become one of my favorites.
What I love about Gator isn't just its humor and it stunts, but the film's handling of its characters and the fact that its story, which opens with a light and breezy tone, unexpectedly turns a bit dark by the finale.
I like Fred Williamson. He has a terrific screen presence and I loved his work in Black Caesar, Bucktown, Hammer, Vigilante, M*A*S*H, and I wanted to like this movie. That didn't happen, unfortunately.
Naughty, naughty, Seventies movie marketing!
